ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given direction to reduce present staff of the Prime Minister Office up to 30 percent so that administrative expenditures could be curtailed.

The public will certainly appreciate this gesture of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but such passion should also be shown in all ministries, divisions and other subordinate departments and should bring financial discipline in other institutions too.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is also the test case for Nawaz Sharif in this regard where thousands of employees were appointed on political basis in the previous regime. Officers from grade 16 to grade 18 were appointed on daily wages and unnecessary vacancies were created to appease favourites while, official vehicles around 1000 are being used indiscriminately. There is no punctuality of arrival and departure of the officials in this institution. The CDA has become a white elephant whose annual administrative expenditures are touching Rs700 million monthly.

The number of employees of the CDA has reached 13,000 and advertisements for appointing more employees have been given.According to experts if the administrative affairs and financial discipline were not enforced strictly then this institution could not come out from the crisis financially. There is a need of reducing number of members of the CDA board.

The CDA can be put on right track if Nawaz Sharif gives task to the CDA chairman or secretary Cabinet to rectify this institution and save millions of rupees monthly to national exchequer.

End.
