Nation has rejected attempt to derail democracy: PM Nawaz

RAWALAKOT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that the nation has rejected the politics of sit-ins and considered it a serious impediment to economic progress of the country.
Nawaz visited the flood-hit area of Rawalakot in Azad Kashmir to get first-hand account of the devastation caused by torrential rains and to review the ongoing rescue and relief operations.
AJK President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and former prime minister of AJK Raja Farooq Haider accompanied Nawaz during the visit to the affected areas. Prime Minister Nawaz said he had a great concern about the people who were affected by the floods and said it was the responsibility of the state to take care of them.
He said every nook and corner of the country was important for him and the government would reach out to all afflicted people. He said the nation should not lose heart during such challenges of natural disasters. "The sit-ins [in Islamabad] are an unsuccessful attempt to derail economic development, but we will continue our journey of progress and prosperity," he said, adding that the government is not fearful of sit-ins.
The premier said economy of the country had to bear massive losses due to sit-ins. He said the nation dislikes sit-ins and considers them as a hurdle in the development of the country. He said the government is not scared of sit-ins but they had caused the postponement of visits of three heads of state, including that of China, which is unfortunate.
Nawaz said that the project of Pindi-Muzaffarabad railway track would be completed in two years. Speaking on the occasion Sardar Yaqoob said the people of Kashmir were grateful to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for paying attention to them during this hour of distress. He thanked the prime minister for giving 12 mega projects to AJK and for keeping in close touch with authorities and for providing all necessary resources to meet the challenging situation of floods.
He termed the sit-ins in Islamabad a conspiracy against the country and assured Prime Minister Nawaz full support of AJK government over the issue. AJK Chief Secretary Khyzer Hayat Gondal briefed the prime minister about the damage caused by landslides and rains.
He was informed that the torrential rains triggered large landslides, causing massive damage to infrastructure and private houses besides blocking major link roads and damaging bridges. The rains caused high-level flood in River Jhelum, Poonch and Neelum and the AJK government mobilised the district administration, Rescue 1122 personnel and army troops for rescue efforts.
