ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that President General Pervez Musharraf's re-election will ensure political stability and consistency of policies which have promoted democratic values in the country while improving the standard of living of the people in all parts of the country particularly Balochistan.

The Prime Minister was talking to Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind who called on him here on Sunday afternoon at the PM's House.

The Prime Minister said that the government is making all out efforts for socio-economic uplift of Balochistan to bring the province at par with other provinces. Balochistan, he said, has immense potential in fields like tourism, mining, minerals, fisheries, livestock and horticulture and the government is focusing on these areas to increase economic opportunities for the people.

While discussing the issue of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and conditions in areas around refugee camps, he said, Pakistan desires gradual return of Afghan refugees to their homeland so that they can take part in the reconstruction process in their own country. Pakistan, he added, wants peace and prosperity in Afghanistan as a strong, stable and vibrant Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan and the region.

Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind updated the Prime Minister about the arrangement for facilitating Afghan refugees to return to their homeland. He said the government will continue to provide every possible facility so that the Afghan refugees can start life easily back home.

He said the arrangements made so far have been acknowledged by international organizations that it would help the refugees to go their homeland and start afresh.

He informed the Prime Minister that the Ramadhan package announced by the government to provide subsidy worth Rs. 1.5 billion on 700 items through an elaborate network of Utility Stores has provided relief to the people. He also briefed the Prime Minister about the ongoing development schemes in his constituency.

Mr. Yar Muhammad Rind said that the people of Balochistan are highly appreciative of the personal interest taken by President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in the development and prosperity of Balochistan.

The overall political situation in the country, PML matters and matters relating to SAFRON Ministry also came under discussion during the meeting.
