Media to help Police against terrorism: IG Police

ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Islamabad police Inspector General, Tahir Alam Khan on Saturday 24,January,2015 urged the media to go hand in hand with Islamabad police in its campaign against all types of crimes especially the menace of terrorism.

Addressing at a luncheon reception hosted in honor of media persons at the headquarters of Islamabad police, he said that the media could play a very important role in the efforts to eliminate crimes from the society as well as rooting out terrorism and extremism from the country.

He acknowledged the role and support of media during the tragic incidents occurred in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). The Islamabad police IG suggested the media to not to glorify terrorists and their activities instead educate and guide the general public while reporting terror incidents.

Tahir Alam said that the country was passing through a critical phase of its history and the nation was fighting a war against terrorism. Therefore, both police and media should understand their responsibilities and extend support to each other to completely eliminate crimes from the society.

He said that police would welcome any criticism on its performance but media should also take version of police while reporting incidents of crimes in the federal capital. The Islamabad police IG announced that Islamabad police Assistant Inspector General Operation, Sultan Azam Temuri (PSP) would perform as a liaison officer between media and police and would be available to respond to any queries of media persons.

Tahir Alam said that now media should feel free to contact a responsible officer for any query regarding any incident in ICT jurisdiction.
A large number of journalists belonging to print and electronic media besides different ranks of police officials attended the reception. Police band and police musical group enthralled the audience with their famous melodies.

CTP has launched drive against use of mobile phones while driving: Rawalpindi city traffic police (CTP) has launched a special drive under which the traffic rules violators particularly those found using mobile phones while driving will be fined. The drivers on wrong parking and creating hurdles in traffic flow on city roads would also be fined and issued challan slips.

Under the drive, city traffic police would take strict action in accordance with the law against the violators and special checking would be conducted in this regard. The drive has been launched aimed at ensuring safe driving on the city roads and to make the journey more safe and secure.
City Traffic Officer (CTO) Shoaib Khurram Janbaz told that wrong parking of vehicles on city roads create troubles for other road users. The rules are meant for the safety and convenience of drivers and passengers, he added.

He said, traffic rules must be observed and the use of mobile phone while driving is dangerous which must be avoided. The CTO informed that special campaigns were launched in the past by the traffic police to educate road users especially motorists about observance of traffic rules, which are for their own safety.
He said surveys revealed that most of the traffic accidents on roads occur due to the negligence on part of the drivers and efforts are being made to persuade the road users in the traffic management and an awareness campaign is also being run for observance of traffic rules. Vehicles and motorcycles on roads without proper documents would be impounded in the respective police stations, he added.
