KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has said that cases of the May 12 carnage will be re-opened and called upon the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry to take suo moto notice of the May 12, 2007 bloodshed in Karachi.
Meanwhile, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari while terming the May 12 cases as false and fabricated said that the Sindh home minister’s remarks are nothing but his frustration at MQM’s stance over the NRO.
All May 12 cases are false and fabricated, said Sabzwari, adding that the MQM was at liberty to choose its own way.
The May 12 incident of 2007, which the Sindh home minister has once again dug out, resulted in the killing of around 50 people in one of Karachi’s worst political violence.
Addressing a press conference along with Sindh Chief Minister here, Dr. Mirza said, “Our ally is playing the role of a tool for the establishment.”
The Home Minister questioned as to what the MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar was doing in prisons during Musharraf regime. “Was he (Dr. Farooq Sattar) went to prison for distributing alms or employment?” he asked.
He said he intends to make the media and people aware of the facts in one week’s time.
Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza said a total of 3,500 criminal cases were cleared through fraud in Sindh.
“Sindh Government and the judiciary has been ridiculed in a big way,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday directed Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza to refrain themselves from issuing statements against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), a private TV channel reported on Thursday.
Talking to the channel, Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri said Zardari had asked the Sindh government to promote reconciliation in the province. She said the PPP and MQM would remain partners in Sindh.
Separately, Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza said MQM leader Farooq Sattar had barred Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry from entering Karachi on May 12, 2007, according to a private TV channel.
Addressing a press conference at Bilawal House in Karachi, Mirza requested the CJP to reopen the May 12 cases. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah was also present. The home minister rejected the MQM’s claims that none of its party members were involved in corruption, saying that their “soft-spoken leader”, Dr Farooq Sattar, was jailed during former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf’s tenure. Mirza said the PPP had started reconciliatory politics under the “forgive and forget” policy, but the MQM had not reciprocated.
End.
