KARACHI: Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar on Thursday 30,April,2015 said that the two suspected terrorists arrested last night belonged to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and had got training from Indian spy agency RAW.

Speaking at a press conference held at his office, Rao said Tahir alias Lamba and Mama Junaid belonged to the MQM and were involved in terrorist activities at the behest of India. He said both suspects, who are also employees of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), had been sent to India for training in the past. “Members of MQM went to India through Indian-held Kashmir; were trained there by RAW; and then came back to Pakistan to spread terror,” Rao said.

“We have solid evidence to prove these allegations. The two people we arrested have confessed to all of this and they are ashamed of their activities. We have seized a huge quantity of explosives, hand grenades and 9mm pistols from these suspects,” he said. Talking to the media with his head covered by a cloth, one of the arrested suspects revealed that he fled to Bangkok after the 1992 operation against the party. “From Bangkok, we were asked to fly to India where we received weapons training and then through Azad Kashmir we came back to Lahore,” he said, adding that he belonged to the Lyari sector.

Speaking about how these terrorists operated, the SSP said, “They are in contact with Zulfiqar Haider, Nadeem Nusrat and Muhammad Anwar. The suspects got in touch with Waqas, who arranged money and visas in Bangkok from where they went to Delhi. Javed Langra, Naveed, his brother Tariq Zaidi and Sunny received them at the airport, took them to a farmhouse in Delhi. An Indian army official, Ram, gave them the training. After training, they were brought back via Kashmir and entered Pakistan illegally through Lahore border.” The SSP said the MQM maintains connections with RAW and is actively working against Pakistan. “They are not a political party but a terrorist party,” he said, and recommended that the party be banned in Pakistan.

He said he knew he was on the MQM’s hit list but wasn’t afraid of speaking to the media about his findings. “MQM is spreading terror in the guise of a political party, and all the senior leaders of MQM including its chief Altaf Hussain are involved in terrorist activities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Thursday night reportedly transferred SSP Rao Anwar from Malir.

The provincial police chief said Rao Anwar “misused” his authority following which he has been transferred and directed to report to the Central Police Office. The police spokesperson said the IG’s orders came after Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah took serious notice of Rao Anwar’s press conference.
