KARACHI: Central Leader of MMA, Prof. Ghafoor Ahmed, while castigating the Pope Benedict XIV on his offending remarks against Islam and Jihad has said that the Pope had transcribed President Bush by making such provoking remarks against Islam. He was addressing a demonstration outside the Binori Town Mosque after Friday prayers, which was organised by MMA to protest against the remark of the Pope. The demo was also addressed by Amir Jamat-e-Islami Dr. Meraj-ul-Huda, MPA Younus Barai, Allama Nazir Abbas Naqvi of Islami Tehrik, Rafiq Ahmed of National Labour Federation and others. The participants of the demonstration were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the offending remarks of the Pope Benedict. Prof. Ghafoor said that by making such remarks against Islam the Pope had joined the war being waged against Islam on international level. He said, " it is not enough to say just sorry, he (Pope) must confess his mistake, tender apology to the Muslim and tell his followers that Islam is a religion of peace and harmony" He alleged that the derogatory statement was given to hide the oppressions and cruelties being meted toward the people of Afghanistan and Iraq by the occupied forces. The MMA leader said that the growing popularity of Islam in the West had worried the western countries and their think tanks, adding that they were paving way to clash of civilization under a well-planned conspiracy. "Islam is a religion of peace and harmony and the Pope’s action is against the teaching of the Holy Christ (SA). He must tell to his follower that West and America were bombing the innocent people in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries brutally and committing crimes against humanity ", he observed. He urged upon the Pope to stand up and raise voice against the injustice and atrocities of America. Dr Meraj-ul-Huda Siddiqui said that the Muslim could not bear the desecration of Quran, Holy Prophet and their religion at any cost. Criticizing the government over the changes in Hudood Ordinance, he said that government spokesman said that America was being taken into confidence over the amendments in law regarding Hudoods. Are the laws for the country could not be made in Parliament, he questioned. He lashed out at MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and said that he and his party were campaigning against the MMA members of committing blasphemy and now when offending remarks against Islam Jihad and the Holy Prophet was made, the MQM and its Chief Altaf Hussain was tight lipped.
