BAGHDAD: A loud blast rocked central Baghdad early on Thursday just as voting began in the landmark Iraqi general election.

The huge blast in the heart of the Iraqi capital came just minutes after polling stations opened at 7:00 am (0400 GMT) in the historic vote for a full-term parliament that marks a return to full sovereignty in the war-torn country.

End.
