Lawyers observe countrywide strike against court attack

ISLAMABAD: Lawyers on Tuesday observed a nationwide strike and mourning day on the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) to protest against the Islamabad court suicide attacks.
Lawyers from the Supreme Court Bar Association, Islamabad High Court Bar Association and District Bar Association Rawalpindi held protest demonstrations and took out rallies on the roads against the Islamabad attack. They chanted slogans against the administration and the federal government and boycotted the court proceeding.
In Punjab‚ the lawyers held protests in different cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Sardhoga, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Gujrawala, Vehari, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Jhelum and Gujrat against the attacks and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They called for enhancing security at courts to prevent such attacks in future.
In Balochistan‚ Fateha was offered for the victims of the Islamabad incident at a condolence reference held all the courts in Quetta. Balochistan Chief Justice Qazi Isa described the attack as a cowardly act. Office-bearers of the Balochistan Bar Association condemned the attack and boycotted the court proceedings.
In Sindh‚ a resolution adopted by the Sindh High Court Bar strongly condemned the attack. The resolution was adopted at a meeting of the bar chaired by Sindh High Court Chief Justice Maqbool Baqir. During the protest, lawyers across the country took out rally on the main roads from courts buildings. Black flags were hoisted on the courts buildings.
