KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to summon Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and ask him why he didn't take any action against the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
Talking to reporters at a ceremony organised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Malik claimed that Shahbaz had asked the Taliban to stop terrorism in Punjab as he and the Taliban share a 'common agenda'. He said if the provincial governments of Sindh and Balochistan have issued arms license to Malik Ishaq, its responsibility does not lie with the federal government. The federal government didn't issue any license to the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi chief, he said.
He claimed that the Punjab government was backing Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. He asked why a case was not registered against Malik Ishaq when he termed Shias of Faisalabad as 'infidels'. Had the Punjab government taken timely action against Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, the terrorism incidents in Karachi and Quetta could have been avoided, he said. The interior minister was of the view that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is supporting Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
Meanwhile, Malik demanded from India to formally apologise to Pakistan for implicating a dead MQM MPA, Manzar Imam, in the recent bomb blasts in Hyderabad Deccan. "I demand from India a formal apology. It has brought ill repute to Pakistan. Provide us the proof for making such serious allegations," he said.
