ISLAMABAD, April 05 (Online): The US Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asian Affairs Richard Boucher has met foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri in foreign office on Tuesday and during the meeting they exchanged views on a host of issues including Pak-US relations, war on terror, composite dialogue between Pakistan and India, Iranian nuclear program, situation of Afghanistan and political situation of the country.

Kasuri said Pakistan attaches much importance to its relations with US. These relations will be further consolidated with President Bush recently concluded visit to Pakistan.

Kasuri informed Boucher about Pakistan reservations on US-India civil nuclear technology deal saying US should not meet out discriminatory treatment to two larger and nuclear armed countries in the region as Pakistan too needed energy and it is striving for its acquisition.

Kasuri also briefed Boucher about composite dialogue process between Pakistan and India saying the process is not moving forward upto our expectations. It should be geared up. US should play its role in resolution of Kashmir issue.

Underscoring the need for settlement of Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue he said any bid to resole the issue through use of force will kick off new confrontation in the region which the region can not bear.

Foreign minister also informed Boucher about democratic system in Pakistan saying democracy is heading toward right direction. Institutions are growing stronger.

Richard Boucher lauded role of Pakistan in war against terrorism and for establishment of peace in the region saying US wants strategic relations with Pakistan and his visit is also aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

End.
