Kashmiris observe Jammu Martyrs' Day

SRINAGAR: Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control observed Jammu Martyrs' Day, today, to reaffirm the resolve to continue their struggle till the achievement of their inalienable right to self-determination. According to Kashmir Media Service, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris were killed in the first week of November in 1947 by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, Indian army and Hindu extremists in different parts of Jammu region while they were migrating to Pakistan. The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyet leaders in their separate statements paying tributes to the 1947 martyrs of Jammu said that their sacrifices would remain unforgettable in the history of Kashmir. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to remain under house arrest, said that sacrifices of the martyrs were an important asset of the freedom struggle. The APHC chairman asked clerics, lawyers and other civil society members to organize protests, tomorrow, on Friday, at Masjid, shrines, imambargas and all public places against the injustices committed by Indian troops. Hurrieyt leaders Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Javed Ahmad Mir, Zamruda Habib and Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Advocate Zahid Ali termed the Jammu massacre as the blackest chapter in the history of Kashmir's liberation struggle. A function was held, today, at APHC AJK office in Islamabad with Convener, Syed Yousuf Naseem in the chair to pay tributes to the martyrs of Jammu. The speakers included the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Ghulam Nabi Nowshehri, Chaudhry Lateef Akbar, Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, Sheikh Tajammul-ul-Islam, Abdul Majeed Malik and Khateeb Hussain. A resolution passed, on the occasion, demanded the opening of Line of Control for flow of relief to the flood victims in occupied Kashmir, release of all illegally-detained Hurrieyt leaders and activists, repeal of black laws and inclusion of Kashmiri representatives in Pak-India dialogue process. The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani addressing a meeting at Tehreek-e-Hurriyet headquarters in Srinagar called upon the international human rights organizations, International Red Cross and Muslim countries to come forward and help rebuild Kashmir, devastated by the September's floods. APHC leader, Yasmeen Raja along with a delegation visited families of the two youth, martyred by Indian troops at Chattargam in Badgam and expressed condolence with the bereaved families. Meanwhile, protest demonstrations were held at Naugam area of Srinagar for the third consecutive day, today, against the killing of the youth by Indian troops. End.
