Karzai promises free, fair polls

KABUL: President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday reiterated his administration's commitment to conducting free and fair elections in line with Afghans' desire and without foreign interference.
At a meeting with members of the Wolesi Jirga's International Relations Commission, Karzai said he would be honoured to see the 2014 presidential ballot taking place in a peaceful environment. He also promised the government would take into account Afghanistan's national interests in its deals with the foreign countries, according to a statement from the Presidential Palace.
Prof. Abdul Rab Rasul Sayaf, head of the commission, Mohammad Noor Akbari and Qayyum Sajjadi discussed with the president various issues, including future of Afghanistan after 2014, the peace process, strengthening of security forces and the security pact with the United States.
