KARACHI: Corps Commander Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar said on Thursday that the Karachi’s issue is political and politicians of the city must resolve it. During his speech at IDEAS 2014 defence exhibition, he vowed to free Karachi from terrorists. “Targeted operation has brought good results as many terrorists and criminals have been arrested”, he added.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif along with Corps Commander Naveed Mukhtar and Sindh IGP Ghulam Haider Jamali paid a visit to the camp of the SSU Unit and Elite Commandos of the Sindh Police. The COAS praised the ongoing police action against terrorists and criminal elements and paid tribute to police officers and Jawans for their sacrifices, said a handout issued from the Police Department here on Thursday.

The IGP told the Army Chief that for the first time the Sindh Police are formally participating in the IDEAS exhibition so that awareness could be created among the public about explosive material, fingerprint machines and other modern gadgets.

General Naveed Mukhtar on Thursday said that only politicians could restore peace in Karachi. He said that the Pakistan Army would continue an operation against terrorists and criminals but the stability in the city could only be restored on political grounds. Lt General Mukhtar said that terrorism and drug mafia has lead to an increase in extremism in the city.
