Javed Hashmi made PTI's president
21 March, 2012
ISLAMABAD: It surprised many when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced in Lahore Monday making Makhdoom Javed Hashmi party's president, claiming the central executive committee (CEC) had already given approval to the move.
Neither the matter relating to Hashmi was on the agenda of CEC meeting, held on March 11, nor was it verbally put before the forum during its last week meeting, our sources, learnt here Tuesday.
"Primarily the CEC meeting was summoned hastily to share the draft of new constitution of the party with its members and to take a decision on launching the countrywide membership campaign," one of the founding members of PTI revealed to this correspondent.
When another participant of the last meeting of the CEC was approached on telephone, he also confirmed the information.
However, he came up with a strange justification, saying "I don't think it will harm someone, if the matter never referred to CEC or taken up by the forum and Imran made Javed Hashmi the party president".
"After all, Javed Hashmi is one of the most seasoned politicians coming PTI way, and making him its president without prior CEC approval should not bother anyone," he emphasised.
End.
