Jamali's starts efforts to meditate between President and Chief Justice

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister, Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali after the decision of the Supreme Court has started his role as mediator in restoring friendly relations between President Pervez Musharraf and Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and in this regard, he met three to four times in the last 10 days with the President and the Chief Justice.

Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali is also trying to arrange a meeting between President Musharraf and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at a neutral place in a cordial environment. It is noted that President Musharraf already expressed his eagerness to restore his friendly relations with Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry after the decision of the Supreme Court.

Sources close to Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali told Online that after the decision of the Supreme Court, former Prime Minister Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali telephoned President Musharraf and on his request, the President called him for meeting.

Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamil during the meeting said that after the decision of the Supreme Court, not only a gap emerged between him (Musharraf) and the Chief Justice but the relations between them also badly affected which could has bad effects.

The former Prime Minister requested the President that he can play the role as mediator to improve his relations with the Chief Justice after his permission. The President agreed this and allowed Jamali to play his role as mediator and said that he from the first day saying that whatever decision taken by the Supreme Court would be acceptable for him and wants friendly relations with the Chief Justice.

Jamali after held meeting with the President met with the Chief Justice at his residence and convey best wishes of President Musharraf to the Chief Justice. It may be recalled that before the efforts started by Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali, Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and other personalities tried their best to improve the relations between he President and the Chief Justice but due to their non seriousness and aspect of point scoring, the meetings not yielded any productive results.

The Chief Justice however said Jamali that he respects him a lot as he (Jamali) kept him and his wife in Balochistan House in a respected manner and gave him car to reach the Supreme Court after barred from Police on his first appearance before the Supreme Court in the Presidential Reference.

Sources further said that Jamali and the Chief Justice met a number of times during the hearing of the Presidential Reference and Jamali also not happy with the deputation of Intelligence Officials in front of the residence of the Chief Justice.

Sources said that after the decision of the Supreme Court, Jamali asked the Chief Justice to show good gesture and restore the better relations already existed between them as it is vital for the strengthening of the institutions.

The Chief Justice asked Jamali that he respect President Musharraf and the President was misguided about him. He showed his pictures with President Musharraf still displaying on the walls of his house.

Sources further said that the Chief Justice during the meeting expressed his disappointment that action still not taken against those who are behind in creating all the situation. The Chief Justice in this regard mentioned the names of Secretary Law, Justice (retd) Mansoor Ahmed, IG Police Islamabad, Iftikhar Chaudhry and a close aide to the President.

Sources said that Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali would continue his efforts regarding mediation between the Chief Justice and the President.
