PESHAWAR: Leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, and vice president of Wafaq-ul-Madaris and administrator of Jamia Masjid and Madrassah, Maulana Hassan Jan was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclist here on Saturday evening.
According to details, the deceased Maulana Hassan Jan had gone to Wazir Bagh
Sharifabad no: 2 to perform nikkah of the son of his party colleague. After Atari, he was going to a nearby mosque to offer Maghrib prayer when some unidentified motorcyclist started firing on him. As a result, he received serious injuries, and was immediately shifted to Lady reading hospital where he scrummed to injuries, Police told while confirming the incident.
The police have registered a FIR and initiated an investigation. To investigate the incident on high level, Police has also constituted special investigation teams.
Hundreds of enraged students of Jamia Madrassah Dervish have gathered in the premises of hospital after breaking news of Maulana Hassan Jan`s murder and chanted slogans against the responsible persons and took the dead body of deceased Maulana Hassan Jan to Madrassah Dervish.
It is worth-mentioning here that Maulana Hassan Jan was the candidate of JUI (Fazal-ur-Rehman) from NA-1 in previous general elections, and had caused the defeat of ANP stalwart Khan Abdul Wali Khan who after loosing the election from Charsada, the ancestral village of the founder of Awami National Party bade farewell to the politics.
The deceased Maulana Hassan Jan was not only known in Pakistan but also renowned on international level as a prominent religious scholar.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Ulema Council, Wifaq-ul-Madaris and Tuhhafaz -e-Madaris-e-Deenyia have strongly condemned the killing of Maulana Hassan Jan and demanded an immediate high-level investigation of the incident.
They termed the murder as an act of anti social elements in order to fan sectarianism in the country, while Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council, Maulana Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi told Online that a secret hand was involved behind this barbaric act and it must be unveiled.
He further said that NWFP government must resign because it has failed to give protection to the lives of Ulema despite MMA Government.
Additional Secretary General Pakistan Wifaq-ul-Madaris, Qazi Abdul Rashid, President Islamabad Wifaq-ul-Madaris, Maulana Zahoor Ahmad Alvi said that killing of Ulema in an Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a detrimental trend.
President Pakistan Tuhhafaz -e-Madaris-e-Deenyia, Maulana Sahibzada Zahid Mehmood Tasi said that killing of Ulema proves that government has failed to maintain law and order situation in the country.
Similarly, Chairman Senate Mohammedan Soomro, Deputy Chairman Senate Jan Muhammad Jamali, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman have also strongly condemned the incident.
Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has termed the killing of slain Maulana Hassan Jan a deep conspiracy while Qazi Hussain Ahmad has linked the killing of Maulana Hassan with incident of Lal Mosque.
