Italy, Pakistan to cooperate on UN reforms

NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri met with Foreign Minister of Italy Massmo D’Alema and discussed in detail the various matters aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The foreign Minister of Italy was also briefed about the situation in Afghanistan and the decision to resume the composite dialogue process between Pakistan and Pakistan.
The two Foreign Ministers also discussed at greater length the issues relating to United Nation reforms and greed to continue close collaboration between the two countries on the subject.
The Foreign Minister of Italy accepted an invitation from Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan at mutually agreed dates.
Foreign Minister also met Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Italy, Oman and the Secretary General of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) here and discussed matters relating to international, national issues, current situation of Afghanistan, Middle East and resumption of talks Pak-India.
In a meeting with Prince Saud-al-Faisal Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister, both leaders discussed a broad range of issues with a wider regional implication.
They shared their assessments of the situation in the Middle East with particular reference to Lebanon and Iraq.
The Foreign Ministers resolved to stay in close touch on issue concerning the regional security situation.
Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri brief his Saudi counterpart about the summit meeting between President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Havana and the decision to resume the composite dialogue process aimed at addressing all outstanding issues including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
The situation in Afghanistan was reviewed in detail and foreign Minister Kasuri reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continue to contribute to the restoration of peace, stability and security of Afghanistan.
Responding to an earlier invitation to visit Pakistan, Prince Saud Al Faisal said that he was looking forward to visiting Pakistan at an early date.
Foreign Minister and Jaap De Hoop Scheffe, Secretary General NATO, discussed in detail the situation of Afghanistan in the light of current developments.
The Foreign Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the Bonn process and to continue to contribute to the restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The two leaders stressed the need for continued international cooperation and focus in Afghanistan to achieve the common goals of peace and stability.
NATO Secretary was deeply appreciated Pakistan’s positive role in Afghanistan and said Pakistan was key to success in Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister Kasuri in a meeting with Yousef Bin Alaw Bin Abdulla, Foreign Minister of Oman reviewed the matters of bilateral and regional importance.
They discussed the latest development in Middle East including the aftermath of Lebanon.
Foreign Minster Kasuri briefed him about the recent meeting with President General Musharraf and Prime Minister of India.
Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri informed his Oman counterpart that in response to their invitation, he would soon be visiting Oman.
