Islam teaches tolerance respect of all beliefs: PM Aziz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Islam is a faith of peace, compassion and moderation and teaches tolerance and respect for all beliefs.
The Prime Minister said this while talking to the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Mr. Ejaz ul Haq, who called on him at the PM`s House Friday morning.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan is an Islamic country and the government is taking steps to promote Islamic values and traditions in our society. At the same time, he said, we are also preparing our population to compete in a globalized world and face the challenges posed by it.
He said that extremism is one of the major challenges facing Pakistan today and added that Ulema and scholars have a special responsibility to transform Pakistan into a model of Islamic teachings of peace and brotherhood.
The Prime Minister said the law enforcement agencies have been directed to make special arrangements to maintain law and order during the month of Ramadhan and emphasized that subversive elements would be dealt with sternly.
Mr. Ejaz ul Haq briefed the Prime Minister about his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and told him about the steps being taken by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to provide improved facilities to *Hujjaj *this year.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs also briefed the Prime Minister about the Madrassah Reform Strategy and said that the *Dar-ul-Ilm *project recently approved by the Cabinet would provide religious and general education as well as vocational skills training free of cost to children in backward areas of the country.
