ISLAMABAD: No headway has been made on the important matters related to cooperation on curbing menace of terrorism in the first round of talks held here Tuesday between Pakistan and India under joint anti terrorism mechanism but both the countries have agreed on certain matters on evolving procedure how the joint mechanism will work.

First round of 2-day meeting was held here Tuesday in foreign office under joint mechanism. Pakistan delegation was led by foreign office additional secretary Tariq Usman Haider while Indian side was headed by additional secretary KCC Singh. The senior officers of foreign ministries of both the countries were also present on the occasion.

Foreign office sources told Online stress was laid on making the talks meaningful and constructive. Pakistani delegation provided evidence to Indian delegation on involvement of India in terrorist acts in Pakistan and demanded that the accused involved in these terror related acts be handed over to Pakistan. H0wever India held out neither any assurance nor made any positive response to it.

Sources disclosed Pakistan delegation urged outcome of investigation made so far into Samjhota Express incident be shared with Pakistan. KCC Singh said the investigations were still underway and outcome of the investigation can not be shared at present. Pakistan will have to wait until the investigation is finalised. Outcome will be shared with Pakistan at every cost when the probe concludes.

Sources informed both the sides had agreed on certain matters as to how to work and move forward under anti terrorism joint mechanism. These matters will be given final shape today (Wednesday).

Indian delegation will meet foreign secretary Riaz Khan today and joint declaration will also be issued today. No headway was made on expanding cooperation between the two countries to counter the challenges facing them with reference to terrorism. Lack of trust on dealing the menace of terrorism between the two countries was the major reason which contributed to prevent both the sides to make progress. However, Pakistan presented its case forcefully and made it clear that the entire world appreciates the role being played by it in war on terror. " We are ready to cooperate to curb the scourge of terrorism jointly with India but this cooperation should be based on principle of equality", Pakistan asserted.

End.

Reader Comments:

India is incorrigible.

Never mind politicians but the Pakistan Army will never have trust in India's intentions towards Pakistan.
