FAISALABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday announced that his party would hold a countrywide protest rally against inflation on December 22.

"On December 22, the people of Pakistan will join the PTI rally and demand the government withdraw undue hike in prices of various commodities," Imran told a press conference in Faisalabad. Imran criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government for increasing inflation in the country.

"The PTI will trigger another tsunami against inflation on December 22 and it is inviting other parties to join the protest."

Imran said Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad and Jamaat-e-Islami would also participated in the countrywide protest.

He said that the government had "totally failed" to provide basic facilities to citizens and the continuous rise in the prices showed it was only focussing on the rich and ignoring the poor.

According to the PTI chief, "Separate laws for the rich and poor is a great injustice." He said that "worst rigging" was made during the May general elections, and added that the government has itself admitted that 60 to 70 percent of votes could not be confirmed.

Imran feared the Punjab government would "also rig local government election in the province", and said he would therefore move the Supreme Court in this regard tomorrow (Monday).

He said the PTI would do its best to ensure that LG elections are not held under the government machinery. Instead, he added, judiciary should monitor the polls.

He said the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would introduce biometric system to hold local government elections in the province.

He said that he and other parliamentarians would be in court tomorrow to hear the final decision about thumb verification and recount of votes in four constituencies of Lahore. The PTI chairman claimed that recounting of votes in these four constituencies could change the country's direction.

Imran said the PTI was gaining popularity and "because of PML-N's bad governance many people are joining the PTI as they know that it is the only party that stands for the rights of common people".

Commenting on the death sentence of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Kader Mullah, Imran said the Bangladeshi government should have followed Nelson Mandela's practice of forgiving people.

End.
