Imran has stabbed govt, army in the back: PPP

ISLAMABAD: Leader of opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Tuesday accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan of stabbing the civilian and military leadership in the back by making public "state secrets" about the military operation against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Addressing a press conference at the Parliament House Chamber, Shah accused Imran Khan of indirectly strengthening the hands of militants by conveying to them the message that state institutions are afraid of them and are reluctant to carry out the operation. "This is simply immaturity on part of Imran Khan, who breached the confidence when he was given the chance to meet prime minister and former army chief on the sidelines of all-parties conference (APC)," Shah opined.
He noted that since Imran disclosed the conversation that took place in the meeting, TTP has intensified its attacks by getting the impression that government is unwilling to act against it. "This is not a service to nation but stabbing in the back of the people at helm of affairs who discussed the secrets with Imran Khan," Shah stated. He called upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to come forward and explain the real story as what was the actual discussion.
"There is no threat to your rule. Don't be concerned about your office. It is the time to take a final decision to take action against militancy," Shah said to the prime minister. He expressed scepticism about the peace talks in view of recent acts of terrorism and said that it has lost its utility especially after TTP Mohmand chapter claimed to have killed 23 personnel of FC. He said that this time the TTP has sabotaged the peace talks, so if it is sincere in talks then it should demonstrate this through the release of all civilian and military captives it has been holding.
The opposition leader also asked the civilian and military leadership to get on one page over talks with the militants. When asked about the inability of previous PPP government to launch an operation in North Waziristan Agency, he said that PPP had no majority in the then lower house of parliament to go for it. "However, it carried out the operation where it was needed," Shah said. He asked the government to clarify as to what will be future course of action.
