ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has urged the government to play role of a mediator so that tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran could be reduced in an amicable manner.

Addressing a press conference after meeting ambassadors of Saudi Arabia and Iran here, Mr Khan said both the countries should take steps for easing the ongoing crisis.

Pakistan, he said, should lead from the front to prevent sectarianism in the region.

He urged the government to take Iran into confidence about its stance on the matter.

The PTI chief condemned the militant attack on Pathankot airbase and said that instead of playing into the hands of conspirators, Pakistan and India should continue to engage with each other.

The dialogue process should not be derailed as the people of Pakistan and India wanted good ties.
