ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday directed the Cabinet Division to provide a bulletproof car and security to former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on the same terms and conditions which were being followed for the security of former prime ministers.

Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui issued the directive and disposed of a plea filed by former Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association president Sheikh Ahsanuddin for provision of security to the former chief justice. Cabinet Division Joint Secretary Ziaul Haq appeared before the court and presented a notification about provision of a bulletproof car of 2005 model to the former chief justice. He said that the car has been provided to the former chief justice for 90 days initially for official use.

Justice Siddiqui expressed displeasure over the use of word "official" and observed that the family of the former chief justice can also use the bulletproof car. In the earlier hearing, the court had ordered the Cabinet Division to provide a bulletproof vehicle within three days to former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

End.
