KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Monday claimed to have foiled a plot to sabotage the upcoming local government elections after seizing a huge cache of arms and ammunition and arresting a suspect associated with a political party.

The paramilitary force conducted a targeted action in the old city area of Bheempura and arrested the ‘criminal affiliated with a political party’, said a Rangers spokesperson.

He said the weapons seized from the custody of the suspect included seven SMGs, five 30-bore pistols, 222 rifle, two 7MM rifles, three 303 rifles and two bullet-proof jackets. The weapons could be ‘used to disrupt peace during the local bodies elections,’ the official said.

Earlier on Monday, the Rangers claimed to have arrested four suspects in Lines Area.

A spokesman for the paramilitary force said that the Rangers conducted a targeted raid in the area and arrested “four criminals affiliated with a political party”. He said that weapons were also recovered from them.
