Health exprets urge protection against whooping cough
06 August, 2012
COLDWATER MICH: ertussis, also known as "whooping cough," has recently seen an upsurge.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, during the first half of 2012, 37 states reported increases in the number of pertussis cases compared to the same time period in 2011.
Although the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph County Community Health Agency has not seen an uptick in the number of pertussis cases within the tri-county area, surrounding county health departments are beginning to report increased activity.
Health agency officials encourage anyone in close contact with an infant to review immunization records and talk to a physician to determine if a booster shot in necessary.
