Govt's tenure should be four years: Khursheed

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah Thursday proposed that the government tenure should be four years instead of five.
"The people considered five years tenure of any government is lengthy and in my personal opinion it should be reduced to four years by making amendment to the constitution," he said while talking to newsmen Thursday.
In reply to a question, he said the government wanted the courts to decide the fate of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf. "The government could opt for going to Supreme Court to stop Musharraf from flying abroad," he added.
He said that Musharraf case was not routine case as it was the case of Article 6 of the Constitution and the punishment under the article was death.To a question regarding the announcement of PAT Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri about returning to Pakistan, the opposition leader said that the government should not try to stop Dr Tahirul Qadri from coming to Pakistan. "If government tries to stop him, there will be an impression that the government is feeling weak. The governments never go with only public rallies," he added.
He said the government should accept the demand of Imran Khan for the verification of votes of four constituencies. The opposition leader said the government had indicated that it would bring the resolution in the National Assembly for the formation of the parliamentary committee on electoral reforms.
"We have asked the government to show us the content of the motion before bringing it in Parliament," he added. He said that the PTI was of the opinion that the government was forming the committee on their pressure.
