Govt enacting major drama by raising Jamia Hafsa issue: Imran
12 April, 2007
RAWALPINDI: PTI chief Imran Khan has said government is enacting major drama by raising Jamia Hafsa issue adding general Pervez Musharraf through this drama is trying to give impression to US that Talibanisation will come if he is not saved and he is inevitable to stamp out extremism.
He said this while addressing a press conference after attending PTI youth wing program here Wednesday.
Responding to a question with reference to Jamia Hafsa, he said it should be sorted out through dialogue.
He told all the political parties would reach Islamabad on April, 13 on the occasion of hearing of presidential reference against the suspended chief justice of Pakistan to express solidarity with the lawyers community. However, nothing can be said about PPP-P.
Replying to a question, he said Benazir Bhutto has conceded on TV that talks are underway between PPP-P and general Musharraf. This is negation of ARD charter. Such things weaken opposition.
What can opposition say to a general more than this that he should step down and an interim government be formed to hold general elections in transparent manner, he said. No back channel is needed to say this thing. Back door channel is needed only to make deal.
"I don`t think that MMA should quit Balochistan government. But this does not mean that opposition should not be allowed to get united under this pretext", he added.
To a question, he said if government withdraws presidential reference, then we will file constitutional petition against general Musharraf that action be taken against him under article 6 of the constitution as the action taken by president Musharraf against suspended chief justice of Pakistan was unconstitutional.
"We stand by the chief justice only because we want independent judiciary in the country. We want such chief justice who does not come via GHQ", he underlined.
He went on to say that dysfunctional chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had started taking suo motu notices on public complaints. Chief Justice took suo motu notice on my press conference in regard to New Murree project and this way project was closed down.
He held lawyers organizations are united and every bid to divide them will meet failure.
End.
