ISLAMABAD: The present democratic government is fully determined to transform Pakistan into a truly democratic society, conforming to the international standards of law and human rights practices, Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid said on Thursday.

During a meeting with a European Union delegation, headed by EU Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, the minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government would fulfil its international obligations with regard to human rights, good governance, labour and environmental standards as it considered them in the benefit of its own people.

Now Pakistan is a fully functional democracy where media is free, judiciary fully independent and the civil society highly dynamic and vibrant, the minister added.

He said that Pakistan's relations with EU were not only cordial but multi-faceted too. He said that EU was one of the largest trading partners of Pakistan and had always provided humanitarian and economic assistance, particularly at the time of natural calamities.

End.
