ISLAMABAD: Government Tuesday announced "Ramzan Package" to provide essential daily use items on reduced rates to the consumers during the holy month of Ramazan.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz announcing the "Ramzan Package" here at Prime Minister House said these essential items including ghee, edible oils, flour (atta), rice, pulses, dates, pickle, ketchup, milk, spices and many other items would be available to the consumers from the Utility Stores throughout the country at reduced prices during Ramzan.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Senator Tariq Azeem Khan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Commander Khalil ur Rehman, Secretary Industries Kamran Rasool and Managing Director Utility Stores Corporations Brig. (Retd) Muhammad Hafeez were also present on this occasion.
The Prime Minister said the government would give subsidy of Rs. 650 million to provide essential items to the people from the Utility Stores at reduced prices during the month of Ramzan.
He said in all 1450 items would be available at reduced prices at the Utility Stores including some important daily use items.
The Prime Minister said, the reduced prices would be applicable from September 22. He said the price of ghee will be reduced by Rs. 6 per kg, flour (Atta) will be avilable at Rs. 11 per kg instead of Rs. 13, while there will be ten per cent reduction on the prices of Rice, Baisen, Pulses, (white gram and Red Lobia), Squashes, Syrups, Dates, Pickle, Ketchup, Milk, Spices and 5% reduction will be given on Tea on the existing USC prices.
He said the pulses namely Channa, Mong, Mash, Masoor and Sugar shall continue to be sold at heavily subsidized rates.
The Prime Minister said in addition to the "Ramzan Package" announced by the federal government through Utility Stores, the provinces have been asked to prepare their own Ramazan packages also.
