Global Resources: Abuse, Scarcity and Insecurity
13 November, 2018
The world is full of conflicts both between people themselves and between people and resources. There is a major concern about environmental degradation through abuse and waste of resources. It is unfortunate that we still have numerous people in the world who cannot access basic resources like water and food, while others have more than enough to the extent that they misuse and waste resources.
There are numerous proposed solutions to these issues, although people rarely take them seriously. Global resource solutions experts strongly support the efficient use of resources so that everyone can conserve and enjoy them.
Abuse of Resources When resources are used in other ways that lead to degradation and depletion, we can refer to this as an abuse of resources. People abuse different resources including natural resources, state resources and any other resources available to them. In addition to degradation, which is easily visible, people also create scarcity and insecurity for others. Unfortunately, the majority of humans abuse the resources that are given to them for use either by nature or by the government. According to reports, only a small percentage of people actually use resources in line with the set recommendations.
Scarcity and Insecurity of Resources
It is evident that most resources in the world are now becoming scarce. This is a situation that causes insecurity for future generations. Let us take the good example of crude oil. There is always the major concern that the reservoirs are almost drained. This simple thought is chilling to many who know that future generations will have to look for alternatives to fuel their vehicles and machines.
Another worrying example is deforestation. Trees provide many resources to people like building material, fuel and material for paper, but people have cut down too many trees. The world is becoming a desert, and rainfall is decreasing each year. In the future, the effect of deforestation will be lack of food and other important resources.
Solutions to Abuse, Scarcity and Insecurity of Resources Changes start with individuals rather than the government or resource organizations. As we discuss some of these solutions, you will realize that many of the efforts to salvage the remaining limited resources have a lot to do with individuals.
● Become responsible – no matter how few and small the resources that surround you, it is crucial to conserve them responsibly. Take the initiative and avoid cutting down trees, exploiting mineral resources and other vital resources. People can plant more trees in their gardens and farms.
● Use alternatives – non-renewable resources are being depleted. Instead of using LPG, charcoal, coal or firewood for fuel, why not utilize biogas and solar when possible? These options not only save resources, but they are less expensive.
● Government policies – it is the role of each government to protect and ensure the fair distribution of resources like water, petroleum, food and many other resources. Governments can easily do this by setting policies that also protect resources from depletion.
Conclusion The abuse, scarcity and insecurity of resources is now rampant. The world is at a higher risk than ever. Future generations may not have some resources that we are enjoying today. However, there is a lot that we can do today so that they will have resources also.
