Gilani asks Obama to have faith in Pak parliament

SEOUL: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and US President Barrack Obama had an informal chat on Monday evening during the dinner hosted by South Korean President Lee in honour of senior members of delegations attending the Seoul Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) here. Prime Minister Gilani impressed upon Obama that ìWe should have faith in the wisdom and sagacity of the elected members of Pakistan's parliamentî, who will devise a win-win solution for all.
The US president, in response, expressed his respect for the parliamentary process in Pakistan. The two had an informal exchange of views about the ties between the two countries.
The informal dinner chat has set a positive and pleasant tone for the conspicuously-important scheduled meeting between Gilani and Obama today (Tuesday) and it is believed that the meeting will cover a number of issues of bilateral significance and interest. It will be an open-ended agenda meeting, but it is understood that souring of Pak-US ties will be an integral part of the deliberations. It is unlikely that the meeting will lead to any breakthroughs but it will certainly help improve mutual understanding on both sides.
Leaders attending the dinner exchanged warm handshakes just before entering the dining hall where dinner was arranged for the world leaders on the first day of the second Nuclear Security Summit. Pakistan and the US leaders inquired about each other's well-being. Prime Minister Gilani also had brief interactions with his Indian counterpart Dr Manmohan Singh and some other leaders.
APP adds: In a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the second Nuclear Security Summit, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said connecting Pakistan's four provinces through a motorway with the Turkish support would be a unique symbol of friendship between the two countries. He discussed the scope for Turkish investment to construct the motorway project.
The Turkish prime minister asked Prime Minister Gilani about the availability of motorways in Pakistan, who apprised him that Pakistan had just a 500-km-long motorway while many cities were still not linked with such a fast mode of communication.
Erdogan assured Gilani that Turkish investors would come to Pakistan for investment in the construction of a motorway to link the major cities. Gilani said linking Multan, Hyderabad, Ratodero and Gawadar would provide a link to all the provinces and it would be a great and unique symbol of Pak-Turkish friendship.
Meanwhile, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono assured Pakistan that it would discuss with all the members of the ASEAN about giving the Full Dialogue Partner status to Pakistan. During a meeting with Prime Minister Gilani on the sidelines of the second Nuclear Security Summit here, both leaders discussed various options to promote and enhance bilateral relations in all fields.
