QUETTA: At least 38 people, including women and children, were killed and 15 others injured in a deadly road accident in Gaddani area of Lesbela district, about 69 kilometres off Karachi, when two passenger buses collided with a truck on Saturday.

A Karachi-bound passenger bus was carrying thousands of litters of Iranian diesel smuggled illegally from Turbat when it collided with a truck, which resulted in a huge explosion, which killed most of the passengers on board. All the bodies were burnt beyond reorganisation.

The passenger bus was en route from Turbat to Karachi. "The passenger bus tried to overtake a vehicle and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. There was a huge explosion after the collision, as the bus was carrying oil," District Police Officer (DPO) Ahmed Nawaz Cheema told the media.

Cheema added that at the same time, another passenger bus going to Karachi from Quetta collided with another truck at the same place. However, only two passengers were killed in the second incident, he said.

Sher Ali, a worker at the transport company whose bus was destroyed in the accident, said that at least 38 people were on board when the incident took place. "All the 38 people, including the driver and the cleaner, died in the incident," he said. "Women and children are among the dead."

End.
