Four rare species of deer recovered from train

KARACHI: Sindh Wildlife Department on Wednesday recovered four deer from a train, Khyber Mail.
According to Game Warden of the department, Mumtaz Soomro, these deer were booked from Bahawalpur, Punjab. According to initial information, a person, Aamir, had sent these deer to Karachi, he added.
He told journalists that it was yet to know to whom these deer were sent in Karachi. He said that the recovered deer were seen a precious type found in deserted area between Sindh and Saraeki belt of the Punjab. He suspected that the deer were brought in Karachi to smuggle them to abroad.
According to him, investigation was underway to trace actual destination of deer, and people involved in smuggling. He said that these deer would be sent to National Khirthar Park after completing necessary formalities.
Anti-biotic medicines sent for Peacocks dying in Tharparkar: Provincial Wildlife Department has sent anti-biotic medicines to Thar Desert in a bid to save lives of dying peacocks there. Around four dozens of peacocks have died in the desert during last two weeks.
The Wildlife Department officials, however, are not agreed with the number appeared in the media. "Only nine peacocks have died in the Thar since July 18", said Secretary Wildlife Department, Musthaq Ahemd Memon.
Talking to media persons after presiding over a meeting of regional officers of his department, Memon said that drought and spreading diseases could be reason behind death of peacocks in Thar. He said that investigation was underway to ascertain actual reasons behind their death.
He said that the department had sent teams and medicines, including anti-biotic medicines, to affected areas of the Thar. Two officers of the department have also been suspended for committing negligence in their duties, he added.
