HANGU: A suicide car bomb targeting police van killed at least nine people including four policemen and wounded 32 others in Hangu on Thursday, our sources reported.

"The bomber ... blew himself up when a police patrol went close to the car for a security check in the town," DCO Hangu Adil Siddique told our sources.

"Nine people including four policemen were killed and 32 wounded in the attack, which targeted the police." police official said.

According to police, the bomber was carrying some 600 kilograms of explosives in his vehicle which he blew up in the middle of a densely populated area, which lies some 150 kilometres (90 miles) south of Peshawar.

He added that several houses collapsed from the impact of the blast.

The dead bodies and the injured have been shifted to district headquarter hospital and others. The condition of three injured is said to be critical.

Security forces have cordoned off the area after the blast.
