KARACHI: JUI-F, Fazlur Rehman on Thursday 8,January,2015 threatened the government he would launch a "D-Chowk like protest".

Addressing a press conference, Fazl said that the current amendments made in the constitution for special courts in the country for a period of two years were a "suicide attack on democracy by parliamentary parties." Maulana warned that in case the demands were not met, the situation could escalate to a D-Chowk-type protest in implied reference to the PTI's protests. The JUI-F chief said that his party had concerns after the amendments made in the constitution. Prior to the press conference, leaders of different religious parties met under the chairmanship of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the consequences of the amendment.

He said that while all parties that took part in the meetings severely criticized the Peshawar tragedy. He said that their stand against terrorism must be unstated and that the country cannot afford one-sided thoughts. He said that the new law actually allows some terrorists to escape and stay safe instead of the other way around. He said that the all legislators actually thinking the same as Senator Raza Rabbani. Fazl said that the world has not been able to define what encompasses terrorism and extremism and that the religious parties in the country demand that it is defined to them. He said that constitutional experts should be consulted so that the cons of this amendment can be put forward, and the nation is given an explanation based on rationale and not emotions. He said a roundtable will be held in Lahore on January 22, which will be attended by all national leaders.
