ISLAMABAD: ERRA on Wednesday started handing over of 400 prefabricated houses to earthquake affectees at Balakot. These huts are constructed by a Pakistani company with funds made available by ERRA.
Brig. Waqar Iqbal Raja, Chief of Staff and Director General Housing ERRA, while speaking on the occasion said that Balakot is located at an active fault lines. Therefore, the government would not permit for any type of construction in the area, as this poses a serious threat to precious life and property. The city of Balakot is therefore being shifted to a new location, he added.
He said that around four thousand prefabricated houses with a life of 5-10 years are being built to accommodate the population of Balakot, where they could live till they construct their houses in the new city of Balakot. The recipients praised the quality of huts and thanked the government and ERRA for providing them a safe and respectable shelter, till they would be able to build their permanent abodes.
