Custodial killings trigger protests in IHK

SRINAGAR (IHK): In occupied Kashmir, massive protest demonstrations were held after killing of a 65-year-old handicapped civilian, Noor Hussain in Indian police custody in Rajouri, reports KMS. The residents of Chowdary Nar village in Rajouri told media men that Hussain was tortured to death in Rajouri Police Station. “He was taken by police and was beaten mercilessly in custody. We found him dead on roadside near his house,” they said. On the other hand, troopers of 42 Rashtriya Rifles thrashed a civilian, Muhammad Maqbool Mir at Gulshanpora in Tral, which sparked forceful anti-India protests in the area. “The troopers and personnel of Special Operation Group during crackdown operation ruthlessly beat up several civilians including one Muhammad Maqbool Mir,” the protestors said. Meanwhile, hundreds of people including drivers took out a protest march at Rajwar valley in Handwara against the Indian troops’ atrocities. The demonstrators appealed the international community to take cognisance of the continued human rights violations by Indian troops in Handwara and Kupwara areas of the occupied territory. Members of the Drivers Association said that hijacking of private vehicles and mini-buses by the troopers during military operations had become a routine in Rajwar, Zachaldara, Yamrad and Wadder and other areas of these towns for last 19-years. “Indian Army has issued us diktat to keep private vehicles and mini-buses at their disposal for their nocturnal movement. They don’t pay us single penny in return,” said a driver Mushtaq Ahmed. End.
