KARACHI: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Tariq Majid has said that the country is facing numerous external and internal challenges due to evolving international environment and rather complex internal dynamics.

“ As the nation is passing through a critical phase of political and socio-economic transformation, these challenges have become even more formidable. Therefore along with the sacred duty of defending the country , we also carry the responsibility of safeguarding our ideological frontiers and protecting the inner front against threats posed by the exploitative deluge of extremism which is endangering to destabilize our socio-political order, retard the economic progress, and subvert our ideological moorings”, General Majid, while addressing the 88th officers’ commissioning parade held at Pakistan Naval Academy, PNS Rahbar on Friday.

He said that in view of the external challenges, it was imperative for the people and the armed forces to keep abreast of the developments taking place on the regional and international horizons so that the nation could cope with the current global trends.

“ “ You should, therefore, whole-heatedly committee yourselves to performing the duties assigned and apply yourselves vigorously in mastering the professional skills”, he maintained.

He emphasized the need of staying apace with the rapid technological advancements that were likely to radically transform the maritime warfare in future.

“ We must also realize that the nation is making huge sacrifices in fulfilling the needs of the armed forces . it is, therefore, incumbent upon us to live up to the trust reposed in us”, he added.

Commenting on Pakistan’s role in war against terror, he observed that the country’s participation in the international coalition had re4affirmed its strong commitment to regional and global peace and security.

The CJCSC said that Pakistan Navy’s participation in coalition maritime campaign plan and holding the command of Task Force-150 twice was a testimony to its professional competence and indication of its resolve to augment international efforts of pursing global war on terror at sea.

In his welcome address, commandant Pakistan Naval Academy commodore Muhammad Tahir gave an account of the training imparted at the Academy. He apprised that the passing out term consisted of 64 Midshipmen . He said that PNA also had the honor of extending professional training to the cadets of brotherly Muslim countries including those of Bahrain , Kazakhstan ,Maldives , Saudi Arabia Turkmenistan and Yemen .

Later ,the chief guest gave away prizes for outstanding performances . Midshipman Muhammad Adeel Nusrat awarded Sword of Honor for his overall best performance.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of senior officers from the three services, civil dignitaries, diplomats, and parents of the relatives of the passing out officers.
