Comatose Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah dies in India

NEW DELHI: The comatose Pakistani prisoner Sanaullaha, who was savaged by a fellow inmate in Indian Held Kashmir's (IHK) Kot Bhalwal jail, passed away in a Chandigarh hospital on Thursday, Indian media reported.

Indian media quoted hospital sources saying that Sanaullah suffered kidney failure on Wednesday which ultimately became the main cause of his death.

He died around 06:30 AM on Thursday morning.

An Indian reporter told that at that moment, preparations for Sanaullah's autopsy were underway.

Sanaullah, 52, was serving a life sentence in Jammu's Kot Bhalwal jail, was undergoing treatment at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, after another prisoner attacked him with a brick and inflicting deep injuries to Sanaullah's head.

Physicians at PGIMER had already declared him brain-dead. He was on a life-support machine since he his arrival at PGIMER.

The attack on Sanaullah followed a similar assault in Pakistan's Kot Lahkpat Jail, which led to the death of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh.

The priosner who attacked Sanaullah is a former Indian army officer.
