CDGK to take control of all major roads to maintain cleanliness: City Nazim

KARACHI: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that the city district government, Karachi (CDGK) has decided to take control of all major roads in the city to improve overall sanitation conditions and EDO Municipal Services will supervise the cleanliness at all major thoroughfares.

In this regard a notification of these roads will be issued soon, added.

He said this while chairing a joint meeting of works committees and town nazims in his office here on Sunday.

He said the city government has placed cleanliness in its top priority as a number of foreign companies will invest in solid waste management in city to take control of dumping garbage on scientific manner.

He further said different foreign companies have completed the study work on the solid waste management and the report will be submitted within next couple of days.

He asked town and union council administrations to submit their 9000 sanitary workers within next two days in Nazim Secretariat.

He said the President of Pakistan as well as Governor Sindh were taking keen interests in the issues and have directed to improve sanitation conditions in the city and to develop solid waste management by using modern technology.

He added that the city government will take control of all major roads from the town administrations and these would be supervised by EDO Municipal Services.

"Our aim is to make the city beautiful and attractive with the cooperation of town and union council administrations", he said.

He further added the sanitary workers of towns and union councils will perform their duties to clean inner streets, roads and by-lanes in their respective towns.

Kamal took serious notice of throwing garbage in areas adjacent to airport where birds creating obstacles in the movement of airplanes and said the practice should be contained on priority basis.

He directed official concerned to take action against the illegal connections and asked water board to collect the outstanding bills in all towns and UCs so that the collected amount could be spend on development of water and sewerage infrastructure.
