29 May, 2016
ISLAMABAD: The budget for the fiscal year (2016-17) will be presented in the the second week of June. According to sources close to the Ministry of Finance, the federal government is considering rescheduling the original date of the budget. Informed sources have also revealed an economic survey will be announced on June 2.
On Friday, Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Senator Ishaq Dar had said the federal budget will be presented on June 3. According to media reports, the government is considering a 10 to 15 per cent increase in salaries of government employees.
Experts say the constitution does not offer any guidance on who exactly is authorised to manage state affairs in case the prime minister needs prolonged treatment. They also say an acting prime minister cannot be appointed as the constitution does not give any provision for that.
The federal cabinet will carry on the government affairs collectively as the Article 90 Section 2 of the constitution says the prime minister is entitled to exercise his power directly or through a federal minister. The federal minister, appointed by him, can chair the federal cabinet’s meetings.
