Blast kills son of security director in Afghanistan

05 August, 2014

KABUL: A landmine killed the 19-year-old son of Afghanistan's Kosan district's security director, Qadir Khan, in western Herat province early on Monday, local officials said.

The mine was placed near the door of Qadir Khan's house and exploded after he and his son, Tariq, were headed to the office, said Juma Gul Rahmani, the district governor.

Rahmani said that the mine was placed near the door of Qadir Khan's house on Sunday night. He added that Tariq was his father's driver, who was recently appointed as the security director.

He added that the police have begun investigating the explosion. No group including the militant has claimed responsibility for the blast.
