QUETTA: A shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in Baloch-dominated areas on Monday to pay tributes to Nawab Akbar Bugti, who was assassinated along with 30 other comrades in the tough terrain of Marri-Bugti mountains in a military action seven years ago.

The strike call was given by the Baloch Republican Party (BRP) and supported by the Balochistan National Party (BNP), National Party (NP), Jamoori Watan Party (JWP- Hali), Jamoori Watan Party (JWP-Talal), Baloch National Front (BNF), Baloch National Voice (BNV) and trader unions.

Life came to a standstill in the Baloch-dominated areas as a mark of respect to the slain leader amid demand that the murderers be brought to book without any delay. People responded to the strike call in all Baloch-dominated parts of Balochistan and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the province.

In Quetta, all the major shopping centres, commercial establishments and business houses were closed. The public transport remained off the road, giving a deserted look of the roads and major thoroughfares.

The main city centres of Quetta, including Jinnah Road, Liaqaut Bazaar, Abdul Sattar Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Masjid Road, McCongy Road, Mission Road, Prince Road, Sariab Road, Tougi Road, Suraj Ganj Bazaar, Khandari Bzaar and Sirki Road wore a deserted look while there was very thin or no traffic in the surrounding localities of Quetta.

According to reports, strike was also observed in Mastung, Kalat, Mongechar, Surab, Khuzdar, Nal, Wadh, Mashke, Kharan, Naushki, Dalbandin, Nokkundi, Turbat, Pasni, Gwadar, Jiwani, Ormara, Panjgur, Mand, Tump, Awaran, Hub, Bolan, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Sibi and dozens of other townships.

End.
