ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that Pakistan army supports democracy and can only take over if the politicians of the country fail to deliver.

Rasheed was expressing these views in interview with private TV channel on Monday.

"Army always takes right decisions for the betterment of Pakistan as it cannot see the country being destroyed", he added.

Answering a question about Chief Justice (CJ) of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, he said that the CJ can make important decisions before his retirement.

The AML chief stated that he always supported common people of Pakistan and would struggle for their rights. "People's problems are my problems. I want to solve their problems".

"I am with PTI Chief Imran Khan as he is protesting against US missile attacks. I am also against these attacks that kill innocent Pakistanis and these attacks are being done with permission of our governments", he said.

For the better situation of the country, Rasheed said that he was in touch with Tahirul Qadri, chief of the Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) also.

Talking about Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he said that he is very proud because he considers himself a lion, very powerful winning after a big majority. He criticized the PM and his advisors for not making wise political moves.

"This government does not deliver and how can it run a country in such a terrible security situation where people are being killed and kidnapped daily", he added.

Commenting over economy crisis, Rasheed said that the PML-N governments badly needed to improve economy as the people are dying of poverty and inflation.

While answering a question about Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), he said that another life is needed to understand that party. "Nothing will happen to Altaf Hussain if anyone leaves his party. He still has full control over the party".

The AML chief strongly condemned sectarian riots, adding he would better leave politics if he could not stop such incidents.
