Anti women practice bill to be moved in NA on Feb 6, Opp to be invited for dialogue: Mushahid

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Mushahid Hussain has said that the Anti Women Practice Bill, which was submitted by PML President Chaudhry Shujjat Hussain in National Assembly Secretariate, would be debated in the session of National Assembly on February 06.

Mushahid stated this while chairing a Parliamentary Committee meeting and following talking to newsmen here in PML house on Thursday. The committee comprised on 10 women of ruling as well as allied parties.

During the meeting Federal Tourism Minister Nilofar Bakhtiyar, State Education Minister Anisa Zaib Tahirkheli, Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Donia Aziz and other women members National Assembly were present.

Muhsahid Hussain further said that the bill following passage from National Assembly would help minimize crime against women who suffered grave injustices in the past and would provide legal protection to women.

He said the PML government is ready to incorporate any good and viable suggestion of this bill from any side and any party.

He went on to say that the new bill had been designed to end practices such as preventing or obstructing women to get share in inheritance, selling of women, forced marriage, nikah with the Holy Quran, custom of 'Wani' or giving a woman in marriage to settle a feud and the custom of triple divorce.

He said the "Prevention of Anti-Women Practices (Criminal Law Amendment) Bill, 2006" would ensure to prohibit these inhuman and un-Islamic customs.

The government was pursuing an agenda to empower the women and utilize their potential for betterment of the country, he added. He said that the bill submitted in National Assembly secretariate was in accordance to the teaching of Islam.

Answer to a question, the Secretary General PML cleared that government would not comprise regarding on women protection at any cost and would not sit still till the provision of protection to minorities, women and oppressed people.

PML would start a special campaign to aware the masses of the country about "Anti-Women Practices Bill", he asserted.

Secretary General PML Mushahid Hussain added that positive recommendations of opposition parties on the bill would not be neglected besides inviting opposition parties for dialogue on the bill.
