Altaf for creation of new provinces
11 September, 2013
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said on Tuesday attention should be paid to equal distribution of national resources and new provinces should be formed in the country.
Addressing a joint meeting of MQM Rabita Committee in London and Pakistan, he said formation of new provinces would guarantee security and prosperity of the country.
The MQM chief called upon the government that apart from national security, all parties conferences should also be arranged on other national issues. Altaf also appealed to scholars, political leaders, intellectuals, students, labourers, farmers and peasants to pay attention to their responsibilities towards the country's development and security.
He said the country was divided into four administrative units in 1971 and the population has increased manifold since then. However, no new administrative changes were made or initiated to run the country smoothly, he added.
"We should learn a lesson from the countries which got independence 60 years ago and formed new provinces with increase in their population," the MQM chief said.
"We have not taken any initiative in this regard and have been trying to find a solution in (existing) administrative structures, which is uneven," he added.
Altaf said that new provinces would be good for solidarity, development and prosperity of the country.
"Creation of new provinces in the country would pave the way for stronger and prosperous Pakistan," he said, adding that government and decision makers should fulfil their responsibilities in this regard.
