ISLAMABAD – The prime minister said that all steps necessary were being taken to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan's soil. It was approved that Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir Councils would also adopt the 21st Constitutional Amendment as well as amendment in the Army Act to facilitate formation of military courts in those areas.

The prime minister said this while chaired a meeting to review progress on the implementation of National Action Plan to eliminate terrorism and extremism from Pakistan at the Prime Minister’s House here on Tuesday 13,January,2015. Nawaz was briefed on legislative and administrative measures as well as the progress on sub-committees regarding implementation of the National Action Plan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that there is no room for terrorism or militants in our society, and government is determined not to be at ease till the elimination of the last terrorist from Pakistan.

He was informed that since December 23, 2014 in Punjab and Islamabad Capital Territory, 164 cases have been registered for use of hate speech and material while 157 persons have been arrested. 40 printing presses and shops have also been sealed. On the misuse of loudspeakers, 1994 cases have been registered and 1088 persons have been arrested. Information from provinces other than Punjab is still awaited.

The prime minister is personally supervising progress on the holistic and speedy implementation of the National Action Plan and in the next few days another meeting would be called to review progress on all the 20 points of the action plan. Federal Minister for Interior Ch Nisar Ali; Special Adviser Barrister Zafarullah; Political Secretary Dr Asif Kirmani; the secretary interior; the attorney general and National Coordinator NACTA attended the meeting, along with other senior officials.
