Akbar Bugti's murder 'biggest mistake': SC
05 September, 2012
QUETTA: Terming the murder of former Balochistan governor, chief minister and Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) founder Akbar Bugti 'the biggest mistake', Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday expressed his dissatisfaction over the over-all law and order situation in Balochistan, saying that there could be no peace until the Dera Bugti issue was resolved.
The chief justice made these remarks in the Supreme Court's Quetta Registry while hearing the cases regarding missing persons and the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan. A three-judge bench comprising the chief justice, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, heard the case.
During the hearing, Akbar Bugti's son and JWP chief Talal Bugti said that if he left Dera Bugti, it would result in external forces taking over the territory.
The chief secretary said that measures were being taken to ensure peace in the area, upon which the chief justice issued directions to include Bugti's family in the voters' lists. "Providing security to the people is the duty of the government," he said.
The chief justice further said that resolving the issues in Dera Bugti was crucial to establishing peace in the province. Upon which, Talal Bugti said that travelling to Dera Bugti in the presence of FC was suicidal.
A 'missing person' recovered from Dera Bugti, Bansra Bugti, recorded his statement in the court and said that after he was brought from Dera Bugti, he was shifted to Chaman and jailed in a police station.
"My brother Kaho Bugti was also in the FC camp in Dera Bugti," he said, adding that he had no idea where his brother could be.
The chief justice asked the FC lawyer Raja Irshad who issued such commands and also asked him about the whereabouts of Kaho Bugti.
Talal Akbar Bugti said that Bansra Bugti was taken away from Dera Bugti and was handed over to Chaman Police.
"Without police nobody can do this," Talal Bugti said and added that Bansra Bugti's statement was recorded in Quetta. Justice Chaudhry asked why Home Secretary Nassebullah Khan Bazai was quiet over the situation.
He asked about the case in which Bansra Bugti was arrested and ordered the Chaman magistrate and police to record their statements.
During the hearing, the chief justice seemed annoyed at Attorney General Ifran Qadir's absence and ordered the deputy attorney general to summon six federal secretaries instead.
End.
