Abettor of corruption made NAB chairman: CJ Iftikhar

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the person who had smoothened the way towards corruption in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam had been made the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and he was also accused of committing contempt of court. He said all were involved in promoting corruption.
The chief justice, while heading the three-member bench, gave these remarks whilehearing the multi-billion rupees NICL case on Monday. He said the result of the NICL case was zero. He said that the trial of only Moonis Elahi was held while the remaining culprits were roaming without any fear. He said that the money of the nation would not let go.
The bench observed that key posts were always given to corrupt officers who never gave any importance to national interest.The chief justice remarked that the court had issued notices to Chaudhry Shujaat and Rehman Malik and if they did not appear, it would not matter the court must give its judgment. APP adds: The Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the failure to take action against the culprits involved in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam despite clear-cut orders of the apex court.
The court also expressed the resolve that it would take the case to its logical conclusion and would not leave any stone unturned for bringing back the looted money to the national exchequer. During the course of hearing, the bench noted that the looted money in the NICL scam had been shifted to foreign banks and honest officers probing the case were transferred so as to give protection to culprits.
The bench remarked that there had been a separate law for the rich and poor for the last 60 years, which would be terminated as everyone was equal before the law. The bench came down hard on the performance of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for not taking the culprits of the NICL to task, terming the FIA's performance as zero. Later, the bench adjourned further hearing of the case till November 5.
